Finally got around to doing some art journaling! Yay! This is for A year in the Life of an art journal's first prompt of the year.
THE PROMPT: Word
ie: along the lines of One Little Word, choose one word that embodies the way you want your year to be LIVED.
THE STUFF: Imagery
ie: Use images, clippings... all to create the FEELING of the word you choose.
THE TECHNIQUE: PAINT/DOODLE
ie: paint and doodle on your images to further create the emotion of your word.

I chose the word play...we just had our all employee conference out in Vegas last week and the theme for our year is Play to Win! I thought that would be a good, fun, lighthearted word for me to use this year.
The "stuff" I used - I am using flash cards for my pages this year, so the one onthe right side has 6 + 12, june 12th is my birthday, so I thought I'd leave that exposed. The play to win is the sticker from the folder from our conference last week, and the strip of numbers just kind of went along with my thoughts from vegas.
The technique - I covered the flashcards in green paint, then added some blue to match the play to win sticker. I then doodled a star and drew around the letters in win. I haven't scrapped or art journaled in forever!!!!! So it felt good to get to it again.

Here's a couple of pages I've done for some of the challenges going on over at Tallyscrapper this weekend for the Light It Up Blue crop for Autism. Head on over and check out the fun!
This first one is of AJ and his driving the Pontiac for the first time. A pretty big deal if you ask me! I don't even drive it that much...cuz I'm afraid someone will hit me or something...LOL! But Jeff trusts AJ's driving ability enough to let him give it a shot. And he did great!

This one is just one of the many, many beautiful sunsets we saw while we were in Costa Rica....every night was just fantastic!

I cannot believe it! It seems like just yesterday that he was 3 years old and driving his battery operated jeep...and now he's driving the real thing! And I'm so happy! Not too much longer and he'll be driving himself to school, into town, to work (making the kid get a job...he likes too many expensive things...LOL) I wasn't worried that he'd be a good driver since he rides dirtbikes. He gets the speed thing, the braking, the shifting...all of that because of ridin' dirtbikes. And he hasn't proven us wrong yet. Although it is pretty funny watching him drive stick...LOL!

The Pack is Hot! What a great game!

The game was amazing! I must admit, I thought it would be a close game so I was a little nervous going in...but it all worked out, the Pack was on fire and Aaron Rodgers led the team with confidence! We had such a terrific time! What amazed me most was how the Falcon fans left in droves toward the end of the 3rd quarter...there was still a lot of time left, so anything could happen, but apparently they gave up. Sad....

But us Packer fans were in it to the end and it was so incredible to see so many of us there. No matter where you looked before, during and after the game, there was Green and Gold! I had said to Jeff a couple of weeks back how I wished the Pack would change something up about their uniforms/colors...I mean green and gold????...it just doesn't go with much...LOL...but now I wouldn't change it for anything...you couldn't miss the Packer fans...and in somebody else's house we stood out...and stood out strongly! It was awesome! Got some good pics, had an amazing time! Bring on the Bears!

Yay! We are so excited about going to the game tonight! We haven't been to a Packer game since we moved south 4-1/2 years ago. It sure is awesome to be able see them in the opposing team's setting. We can't wait to get there and see all the other Packer fans, as I hear there are going to be quite a few! All I have to say is Go PACK Go!!!!!

Being from WI originally, this 5 or 6 inches of snow we got over night Sunday and into Monday here in SC doesn't seem like a lot...but let me tell you....it's shut the whole area down! Today is the 3rd day of school being called off. We can't get out of our driveway either. We don't own shovels anymore, we left those in WI...LOL! It just cracks me up...in WI this would have been nothing...here it's a major deal! They have nothing to clear the roads with. I mean, no plows, no sand, no salt...nothing! It isn't cost effective for the city to have them because they get snow so rarely. And usually if we do get a bit of snow, it melts the next day. But, not this time. It's so cold that now everything is covered with ice and black ice. It has certainly been an interesting. I love it! A little something different for a change.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays...I love to decorate outside, set up my dept 56 village inside, and just about everything else that has to do with halloween. The only thing i don't like is scary movies...LOL...but I've created some halloween atc's for a swap over at tallyscrapper and a fun page in which i edited a photo of myself over at picnik. They have such fun editing features! And it's super easy to use. Thought I'd share my recent work...

We had a challenge over at Tallyscrapper called "hold on to summer"...we were to create a layout that represents summer to you and flip flops sure do that! Not to mention the fact that I love my yellow box flip flops. So for this page I actually used the shoe box top as the background of my page as well as the tissue from inside the box. :) It's fun and summery and I love how it turned out!

AJ took 2nd place in his motocross race!

Last night AJ had his first ever motocross race. He's obviously been riding for quite awhile, but only now started to race. He took 2nd overall. He felt really good riding and I finally think I can handle this riding business and not freak out every time they go! Here's some new pages i did of him from last night. The first one I edited in picnik and then cut out him and his bike, the 2nd one is his shadow that was in the bike trailer from the same pic that I took and used in the first page. I cropped it out of the original picture and then edited it a little bit in picnik.

Saluda River Trip

Yesterday we took a trip down the river off of Lake Greenwood. We'd never been up that way because our boat can't go into waters that shallow. With a group of 13 of us, we took 2 pontoon boats and headed up the river. It was about a 12 mile trip in all. We saw some really beautiful scenery and stopped and had lunch along the way. The boys decided to swim and found a few platforms to do some jumping off of. Then we ended the day with some beautiful pics of the sun setting....here's just a few...

AJ got a hole in one!

AJ and Jeff were out golfing last Sunday and AJ got his first ever HOLE IN ONE! It was a 170 yard par 3 with an elevated green. You can see the flag from the tee box, but you can't really see the ball when it hits. They knew AJ's shot was on the green, but couldn't tell exactly where. They got up to the green and didn't see the ball anywhere and were a little baffled by that. AJ said "well I guess I'll check the cup then" and sure enough, there it was! So it was awesome to get the Hole in One, but a bit of a bummer that they couldn't see it go in and cheer about it from the tee box...Jeff did take a picture of AJ taking the ball out of the cup with his phone...so of course I had to scrap it!

It feels good to spend time up in my scrap studio....traveling so much for work puts a damper on that...but now that I'm back home and working my "home" market for the remainder of the year, I've got time to run up and do a few pages each night. And I'm lovin' it! This week I managed to make a mini album and I haven't done of those in quite a while. I also did a page this morning that I just love! It turned out exactly as I had hoped....and that doesn't happen very often. I usually go in with an idea and it comes out looking completely different! It's a picture that I took of Jeff when we were in Tybee Island last summer...love the photo, so I've scrapped it a few times, but this one is by far my favorite!

and here's the mini...I based the cover on the song "it's summer nights" by Rascal Flatts...love that song and we had so many fun nights this summer that I figured it would be perfect!

So....my baby started HIGH SCHOOL!!!!!!!

I cannot believe AJ started high school this week....one, I can't believe he's that old....two, I can't believe I'm THAT old...LOL! I certainly don't feel old enough to have a high schooler! His school has over 2000 kids! And that's just one of 2 high schools here in Greenwood! Wow! He's enjoying his first week....he only has 4 classes a day...I think I had 7 or 8! My baby is growing up....so in honor of that, here are some of my recent pages I have done of him....

I have been such a bad blogger...I haven't posted in forever, but life keeps getting in the way! I was crazy with work and then the summer began and now I've been crazy with that as well as work. Then my parents came for a visit which was wonderful. AJ won't home with them to spend his 5 weeks up in WI. So Jeff and I have been without him since 7/8...he finally comes back on Monday! Yay!

I cannot believe that Jeff and I have been married 20 years today. It's just crazy to think how quickly time goes by! And we still like each other! LOL! I don't feel like I'm old enough to be married that long...Anyway, I did some scrapping about him...I love the words to You Make Me Smile by Uncle Kracker...so that was the basis for this page...

Year in the Life of An Art Journal - March 30 Prompt - SOAR

Artful Amblings March 30th
Prompt - SOAR

My word for you is SOAR. There are so many different directions we can go with this word and I'm excited to see what you all do! To me, soar means to spread your wings and fly....float aloft, rise higher, sail away to where you are, want to be or are going.

TECHNIQUE TO TRY
The technique I'd like to see is to reverse out a shape on your page...I chose a circle and I've done it with stars and hearts too, but use any shape you want. Off set it a bit on your page. I started with a page from the dictionary, and though it might be hard to see on the photo, the word soar is in the center of my circle. I covered the whole page with gesso, then used darker oil pastels to make the shape stand out. I took a green oil pastel and bordered the shape. Then I cut out a circle and placed it around my reversed out shape. I also used oil pastes on the circle and smudged them for a soft transfer from one color to the other. I bordered that shape with some black stickles, then added the wings and the word SOAR on some wooden alpha tiles. I found this fiber in my stash and thought it looked like clouds. I wove it through my tiles for a dreamy, heaven/sky like look.
Have fun with this prompt! I can't wait to see all the awesome pages you all create!

Here are the last few prompts for A Year in the Life of An Art Journal...My friend Rachel has this fantastic blog of which I am a host for...so the Unknown prompt was a prompt that I came up with...I just wanted to have some fun with sewing and paint....and boy did I! I always go into a prompt with an idea in mind, but the finished product almost NEVER looks like what I had in mind! LOL!

This prompt was HOPE...and the technique was to use stencils or masking....

Silence was the word for this prompts...and the technique was inchies...

The Mid March prompt was to use UN and a word of your choice. The technique was to add a texture layer to your picture...I used Unbelievable and used a photo of me from my recent DSA Trip to Puerto Vallarta! It was an unbelievable vacation and I was so honored to have won this award....I still can't believe it!

The First Prompt in the "A Year in the Life of an Art Journal" Journey!

Come join us at A Year in the Life of an Art Journal! It's going to be an incredible year of artful amblings, great inspiration, and glorious art! I'm honored to have been chosen to be a guest host in this year's journey! You'll get a couple of different prompts each month, one from Rachel herself, and one from a guest host!

Here's the first prompt!

There is so much to be said for symbolism. We started out the last year with a similar prompt, but I really feel like it's one that deserves to be visited.
WHAT
What is holding you back? What is stopping you? What are you afraid of? What is keeping you from your potential? WHAT?!?
To start out, I wrote the things that have held me back or that I've heard from other people about what holds them back when it comes to art.

TECHNIQUE TO TRY:
Now take all those things... and paint over them!! Cover them up, and take away their power. I used some alphabet stickers to spell the word WHAT and painted over it all. This is a technique called masking. It's similar to stenciling only in the reverse. One tip: and you can see where I didn't start out this way, because my W and a little of the H tore up the page as I pulled them off... Use UN-DU to remove your stickers. I used it over paint and everything, and it didn't smear or hurt anything!! LOVE that stuff. Plus, my vintage paper loved it too. No more tears for the other stickers as they came off. Cover your WHAT words as much or as little as you'd like. I left them showing a bit. Then I used a vintage label to say "what is holding me back? NOTHING. Kiss My ASS." (remember, what you say on your journal pages is up to YOU... and I have a sailor mouth. You don't have to cuss if you don't want to.) I also used some necklace chain over the word WHAT to symbolize being held back in the physical sense of the word.

ATC Challenges over at Tally!

Here's the first prompt...

The theme - Resolve

Create your ATC (remember 2.5x3.5) based on the theme resolve...something like "I resolve to" or "My resolution(s)".

Must use - Plain card stock for the backgroun
- A sharpie somewhere on the ATC

Picture or no picture....it's your choice!

AJ is our pride and joy...took these pics of him last night while we were opening gifts and I knew as soon as I saw them that I was going to scrap them...I wanted to make it a very grunge-y page so i used paint splatter, crumpled up kraft paper, glimmer mist....I love it!

DH and Son are off riding today...of course they had to use their new enclosed trailer that they got this week. It really is pretty cool. Now they can store all their gear, the bikes, everything in it instead of taking up all the room in the garage! Yay! They put in hooks for their helmets, a place to hang their riding clothes, a bracket for their drinking water jug...and of course the hooks to tie down their bikes. The outside right now has some company's info on it so Jeff will need to take a heat gun to it and take it off. Then maybe they'll do Zimmer Racing or something like that. AJ wants to start racing so I guess that would be appropriate...LOL! Here's some pics...

and the other one is givin' a peace sign... Love, love, Love Alanis Morisette! I knew I'd do a page from one of her songs in my art journal... did the background with a berry acrylic paint, then went over it with some yellow and some blue. added the denim pocket and distressed it. Then used raven glimmer mist through a mask and got some cool over spray from it and then the white bordering with one of my fiskars stamps in white acrylic paint. Wrote the lyric on with red pearl paint.

I used water color crayons and of course the pieces of sheet music (which I am including on every page in this particular art journal. I also used my heidi swapp clock stamps... Thanks for looking!

Okay, so I've decided I LOVE art journaling! I've been doing a lot of art journal cards thanks to my good friend Rachel (check out her awesome blog here) and A Year in the Life of an Art Journal. I have also been participating along with Emily Falconbridge's 52Q . And most recently I have decided that I really wanted to do a larger art journal book. So I went to a thrift store, picked up an old book...ripped it apart, mod podged and gesso'd some pages and got to work. I always thought the pages would take forever to do, but they don't...they are actually quite a bit quicker to do than I thought. My only problem is I have NO patience...I can't seem to wait for paint, gesso, mod podge, gels, whatever...to dry! Well, wouldn't you know, I actually like some of the things I've done that came about because I COULDN'T wait! LOL! Anyway, Several months ago I got myself a copy of Journal Revolution and read through it page by page. I loved what I saw! This week I order a copy of Visual Chronicles by Linda and Karen as well. I can't wait to get it and see the inspiration that I'm sure it holds!

What more can I say? It was fabulous! I had a wonderful time seeing some of the tally rally girls that I had met at the SC rally and meeting a whole bunch of new tally rally girls! I deepened some friendships and made a whole bunch of new ones! It was wonderful. While I didn't get a whole lot done as far as scrapping goes, I did get some wonderful things done...an art canvas in a class taught by Rachel (tallyho) and a cute little "me" canvas that I thought was just the coolest thing ever that Jen (firstladyofmant) brought for everyone to put in our goodie bags. She had done a dress cutout along with arms and legs, then took a picture of each of us to use for the head. I had so much fun putting it together. Thanks Jen! It was such a fabulous idea! I did manage to get a few good scrap pages done as well. Overall we had a wonderful time, great food, great drinks and great friends!

Pinks All Out....

Jeff, AJ and I went to the Pinks All Out races at Zmax Dragway in Concord yesterday! What an awesome day we had! We saw tons and tons of drag races....and some cool exhibition stuff too by dragsters and jet cars! It was soooooooo cool! Here's just a few pics of what we saw....can't wait to scrap some!

This was the first ever in history....4 across drag race. Zmax is the only drag strip like it in the country, so I took a lot of shots of it. There was this wagon that just launched strait up off the line every time he took off....it was really cool. He got a little squirly once and I thought he was going to hit the wall, but he got it under control and finished the race.....

The pink smoke was from the jet dragster....it was awesome!

The shot of the time is from one of the exhibition pro drag cars that did a run down the track. The feeling in your chest was amazing!!!! come on....302 MPH in 3.98 seconds....wow, what a rush!

I officially moved into my scrap room this weekend! I'm so freakin' excited I can't stand it! Jeff put the cabinets in on Saturday....now I just need to paint them and and then Jeff will put the counter top up and my computer space will also go between them. I officially scrapped a few pages and ATC's in my new space...and it was wonderful! I felt like a kid in a candy store! I had the window open and there was a nice breeze coming through....the music cranked up....ahhhhhh....the pleasures of life....

Now, I didn't have a zipper, anywhere....who'd have thought? I had just taken a whole big bunch of things to goodwill and therefore didn't have any old shirts, sweatshirts or pants to take one from....LOL.... so I did mine based on telling myself to "zip it!" I always doubt my color choices for my walls....I don't know why, because it always turns out just as I wanted it to! So I used some of the paint chips from my recent color choices and the background is close to the color of my new scrap room! Make sure to get over to Gutter Girlz and play along!

Last weekend it was my new scrap room which is almost done! Thanks to Jeff, AJ and Jeff's brother Rich! They've done a fabulous job and I'm so stinkin' excited to move in I can hardly stand it! They did the floor this weekend. I chose a light colored bamboo and I love it! Now all that's left is the Crown molding,trim work and cabinets. Jeff cut the crown molding this afternoon and is painting it right now. It will go up this week. Then I decided I wanted my living room painted, so I started that yesterday morning and Jeff and Rich helped me finish it yesterday and I love the green I chose. It makes the room so much more cozy. I'm hoping my new furniture can be delivered next weekend. I picked out a really cool red sofa and love seat...can't wait to see it with the green now. After I move into my scrap room I'm done decorating for a long, long time!

AJ was featured in the spotlight this week at school for his art. The project is a tessellation...which is a design featuring animals that fills the page and creates a pattern. I was looking at it and thinking how long it must have taken him. But it is such a cool piece....and I'm sure he picked dogs because of Romeo...LOL! They had a reception at school this week for it and all the art was displayed for the parents and kids to see. I'm so proud!

I just can't resist a chance to scrap about my 2 favorite guys evah! I love this photo of them and I've used it before, but I thought this time I'd do it in b&w with a bright background and bright embellies. I'm so pleased with the way this one turned out....I think it might just be my favorite page ever! You know....every once in awhile you come up with a page that you just smile and say "perfect" when you've finished? Well, I did that with this one. It was exactly the outcome I was hoping for. Last year, Rachel (Tallyho) over at Tally Scrapper inspired me to create some art journal pages. I loved that I did it and some of it was really good "healing" therapy! It's been a great week!

Last Friday night when I got home from work, I was going through my mail and saw a card from Somerset Memories that said I was being published in the feb/mar issue. I thought that was wonderful and all, but didn't know what they were publishing as they usually send an email first to tell you what it is they are putting in. So when I got home last night and saw the feb/mar issue on the counter I couldn't wait to rip into it and see! Well, I had not one, but four layouts in it! I was soooooooo stinkin' excited I think Jeff thought I was nuts! The first one I came across was one I did of AJ and Jeff that I just absolutely love! Then there was one that I did of my sister, brother and I just months before he passed away....that was really special. I don't have many photos of my brother, so I wanted to make just the right layout with them. another one was one of my favorite photos of AJ and myself when he was about a year or so old, maybe a year and a half and the last one was one of Jeff and AJ and some fantastic shots my dad took of them. I've posted them all below.

Then, I got my new camera that I ordered last week. Of course it came on Monday, when I was already 2-1/2 hours away at work for the week, so I had to sit and think about all week long, knowing it was sitting there and I couldn't play with it. So of course, I ripped into that box last night too!

I also bought a new car this week...I really needed to, it was hard to say goodbye to my old car, it really treated me well for the 6 years I had it, but it was time to go. And I really wanted to go to an SUV for something different and knowing that we would be giving it to AJ when he starts driving in a couple of years made me want to go with something that would be safe and yet fun for a boy. So my new Kia Sorento (yes it's a manual 5 speed, I just had to have stick again) is just perfect!

And to top it all off, My Tally Scrapper Kit came in the mail too! It's going to be a fun weekend! LOL!

On the road again!

Well, I'm back on the road again. I'll be in Hickory NC for 5 or 6 weeks, then I'll head up to greeneville tn for 6 -7 weeks. I need to get back into the swing of hotel life since that's where I'll be until april/early may. Of course last week didn't start out so great with a leak in my hotel room, the tub not draining and the coffee pot not being cleaned from the person who stayed in that room before me. Ick! Then when I heated up my dinner in the microwave, I forgot to take the bag of hersheys kisses off the top of and they were completely melted. LOL! I tell ya....it's always something! Anyway, I'm sure I'll have some other interesting tales to tell!

AJ wanted a "ghillie suit" for Christmas. It's a camo suit that he can wear when he's air softing....it's the funniest looking thing ever! He really looks like a shrub in it! I can imagine how this would "help" his air softing game by hiding himself in the woods! One of the photos is AJ standing in front of the tree with his ghillie suit on and you can hardly see him! Too funny! My mom and I had the most fun looking this thing up online and laughing hysterically while doing so! I had some camo paper that I knew would be perfect for this layout. I no idea while creating this page that the photos and embellies would appear to be hidden on the page as well....and from afar it does look that way!So it worked out perfectly!

Last night we finished up decorating the big tree. Then I just sat and stared at it. I love this tree! Today we finished up the floodlights outside and will adjust them when it gets dark tonight. I'll post a pic of that maybe tomorrow.... But for now, I think we're done! I have all the trees up, my village, my mantle is done and I think that just about covers it! Monday night I have bunko at my house, so that will be the first group of guests that I'll entertain this holiday season. Should be fun!

Normally mine is not the "f" word, but after an hour and a half of trying to figure out how to thread my sewing machine (that I bought last February and haven't touched once!) and another hour trying to figure out how to sew with it...I was doing some blogging and saw the Gutter Girlz new prompt and said to myself, this is perfect for my fight with my sewing machine! So I put some paper scraps together and started to sew....although not well...LOL...with thread strings hanging out everywhere and several holes in my paper, I scrapped the whole scene for this prompt.

Well, it's that time of year! I love to decorate for the holidays and have gotten started on it. I've done the dining room tree, the kitchen tree, my village and my nativity so far. Jeff's working on setting up the big tree and will hopefully finish that today so we can decorate it as well. Then we just need to do the outside stuff, the floodlights and the garland and bows on the porch. Once that's done, we should be good to go! Here's a few pics so far....

Jeff's car took second place at car show we went to Saturday afternoon. It was a gorgeous fall afternoon, perfect for sitting at a car show. The vote was a spectator vote, so I guess people really like his car! I know it really makes him so proud of his car, he's put so much work into it over the years and this kind of thing makes it well worth it! Of course, AJ was just as excited and proud.

I made this mini acrylic book with some of my favorite pictures of AJ. I want him to know that the world is his open door and that he's starting out on a journey of life. The boys go dirtbiking fairly often and sometimes they drive an hour or so to get there. Well AJ has apparently been scoping out different things he knew I'd like to take pictures of for scrapping. I went with them this past weekend and there were several things he pointed out to me along the way. One of them was this old cemetary plot. There's no church nearby and all the headstones have the same family name of Corley. My guess it was their own family burial site. The oldest dated stone we could see was from 1819! They are all in really good condition. I've got to do some research and see what I can find out on this family.

Scrap Therapy....

This was kind of a tough week for me so I decided on some "HAPPY" scrap Therapy...AJ. He's my pride and joy, even though sometimes he drives me crazy....but I'm so proud of him! He's such a good kid. And really the only thing he gives me a problem with is his chores...How do you get a kid to do their chores? It's killin' me! LOL!

I was asked to be a guest DT'er next month over at Gutter Girlz! I love their prompts and have so much fun creating my layouts each time. But, I'm even more excited about being a guest DT'er! so I love this challenge that's posted over at Tally Scrapper...scrap your favorite food. At the tally rally last weekend, we had dinner at Kanpai, a hibachi and sushi restaurant. I knew I wanted to have some Sushi and Christi said she'd try some too, so we share a small combo and it was yummy! I think Christi liked it too!

with my tally rally pictures. I took this one of Christine and I and edited it in black and white at picnik.com. Then decided it would be just right for the "elsie" challenge over at Tally. Christine is just so bright, chipper and fun and these colors are perfect for how she makes a room feel.
